Downtown Site Assistance Program
The DDA has developed a three-part site-assistance program. The program provides up to 50 percent matching grants for hard costs related to facade improvements on historic buildings. In exchange for grant funds, the city receives a preservation easement on the structure's facade. DDA staff is working with at least three property owners considering significant (in excess of $50,000 per facade) rehabilitation projects.
Highlights:
- The Cool Cities designation has enabled the city to pursue many opportunities for site assistance and rehabilitation funds to revitalize and re-energize the downtown community.
- The Cool Cities designation and subsequent grant funding have proven fruitful in reattracting development within the downtown district. The vacancy rate has remained stable, and many new businesses have located here within the past five years.
