Mount Clemens
Bath City ART-Park
The Bath City ART-Park (BCAP) will create a programmable sculpture garden adjacent to the city's thriving Art Center. Connections through signage, web, and print with other Downtown public art installations will make the BCAP a key amenity and capstone to The Art Center expansion.
Highlights:
- Mt. Clemens DDA, City, Anton Art Center, individuals, foundations, and corporations were all involved with the project.
- The expansion of the Anton Art Center solidified its grant role and presence in Macomb County and is one of five main art providers in Macomb County and the city of Mt. Clemens. The second phase of the plan is to create an Art Incubator. They have submitted a proposal, which is currently under review, to the owner of a building that used to be an old hospital and would make a great space for the Art Incubator.
- The $100,000 grant has been leveraged to $1.6 million.
- In the beginning of the project Dan Burden was invited to help implement streetscapes and walkability plans that he had recommended, but lost 25 percent of the budget and now is unable to implement the plans.
- The use of the ART Park and the display of the current five sculptures have contributed to the discussion of the role of public art and its effects on all aspects of the community and what it considers controversial art. There has been an increase in outdoor entertainment and public tours, which has all been positive.
